Be a Business Person

One of the reasons that many independent filmmakers “fail” in their efforts to make movies, build an audience, and gain notoriety is because they are looking at the world of filmmaking as an art form, which it absolutely is; however, even the best artists know that a beautiful painting does not exist unless there someone out there who’s willing to look at it.

The moviemaking business is a business and, like any other business, it needs to be entered into with the understanding of how the business works. So the first thing to keep in mind is that you are about to venture into the“business” of making, marketing, and distributing movies, whether you sell your film to a distributor or distribute it yourself. The game is the same.
