Once you have finished a few drafts of a script and have the confidence to allow other people to read it and critique it, try submitting it to screenwriting contests. There are some amazing programs out there and some really great competitions that reward winners handsomely via money and exposure.
I recommend you check out the Austin Film Festival Teleplay& Screenplay Contest; The Blue Cat Screenwriting Contest; The Big Break Screenwriting Contest; the Page Awards Screenwriting Contest; Slamdance; Sundance Screenwriters’ Lab; and the CreativeWorld Awards, among others. If your script gets in, the exposure can give you the tools you need to get your movie made faster. And if it doesn’t – look at the bright side, you wrote a script which you can now produce and turn into a real film.
