I mentioned the importance of silent films in earlier chapters, but I want to take this opportunity to again remind you that there can be a lot of power in a silent picture. You can make an actual silent short or just a short film about a character who can’t speak.
The ability to shoot silent pictures will greatly enhance your directorial skill and give you a greater understanding of how cinema works, like how to move the camera, how to move the actor, and how to block the scene. No dialogue writing abilities are needed.
Charlie Chaplin is revered as one of the greatest silent actors of all time.
