The Writer is King

There is no doubt in my mind that the script is by far the most important asset you can have in the film industry today. If you have no money, no experience, and no connections but you have a 120-page masterpiece on a PDF, then you have something that Hollywood wants and is willing to pay a lot of money for. If you don't believe me, just take a look at how two no-names, Matt and Ben got their script made. You will, therefore, have an easier time getting agents, producers, and directors to read your script and help you get your movie made. Life is made easier by an amazing screenplay. It is why I encourage people to focus their energies on gaining as much theoretical knowledge and practical experience in writing, above all else.

This is why I also think that you should make a daily, conscious effort to improve the quality of your writing. Read scripts, read novels, listen to podcasts and sign up for newsletters and blogs that dissect the art of writing. Write every day, work to become a master of the craft. It’s a difficult goal to achieve, but it’s the pursuit of the goal itself that makes the quality of your current work better than the quality of your last. And it’ll be the thing that determines the quality of your script, and as a result, the quality of your film.
